“I am because we are”
John Telfer
REACH Support Inc. was founded by John Telfer, who is Caribbean born and social worker by profession, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. John recognizes that due to inequities in society, some families are faced with greater challenges and difficulties due to various factors outside of their control. And as a result, this affects children/youth development and their access to opportunities and resources.
John is fueled by passion in supporting Black, African and Caribbean families who are disadvantaged and marginalized, so their children build resilience and have access to opportunities to be successful. John has first-hand experience of struggles during his childhood, however, through community support, he managed to navigate these and be successful. John remains humble and grounded knowing where he came from and is aware of his purpose, which is to serve the community.
The African phrase, Ubuntu – “I am because we are”, is a true reflection of where John is today, because of the community that surrounded him from childhood, into adulthood and today.
John holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Child and Family Studies, and a Masters in Social Work. John has over 15 years’ experience working in child welfare and is an accredited Caring Dads and Safe & Together facilitator.
